Autism Awareness Month!

Filed under: Autism, Pictures, School, Work — Bec @ 10:25

PD and I were talking about some of the class room decorations they’ve been working on for their parents day. We were doing a search for some ideas and we ran across the fact that April is Autism Awareness Month…

So bought this awesome shirt for him and the teacher in his class has requested one.

He wrote a poem for the class bulletin board for parents night… hope he doesn’t mind my posing it. you don’t, do ya honey? I’ll need to wait for final wording … *hint*

Snow Day

Filed under: Kids, Outings, Pictures, School, Work — Bec @ 20:50

It’s really hard to believe we actually got snow. Sam was so excited. He had been waiting for this all winter. They closed our schools at one o’clock, which I thought was hilarious. It didn’t even stick, much less stick around, but neighboring towns got hit pretty hard so I suppose it had potential for damage. Or maybe it’s just so rare, they wanted the kids to be able to play in it?! In my videos, it’s hard to believe the kids were even home. It was so quiet… except for my cell phone ringing a couple of times.

I was so worried about how this would turn out. They took this the day after the major hair cut. I’m very pleased.

It’s a Jungle Out There!

Filed under: Kids, Pictures, School, Video — Bec @ 9:26

Sam’s school had their, oh so cute, kindergarten program last night.

A few things I’ve learned I need for next time…
- tell family earlier than four hours before
- get there 15 minutes earlier than they tell the parents to have the kids there.
- baby sling
- camera tripod
- get my son to carry a handkerchief (an every day thing)

back to “normal”

Filed under: Family, Holiday, Kids, Pictures, School, Work — Bec @ 10:59

as of December 28th i was officially back to work and back to “normal.” and aside from a few changes that took place january 1st that no one told me about, everything has been running rather smoothly. PD and I have been figuring out morning schedules with getting kids and ourselves ready. And then there’s PD’s night classes that start on the 14th. i am happy though to say we’ll have him home more in the evenings this semester. he’s only taking two classes on campus and the rest will be internet courses so that will be nice to have the normality for the kids, but it will be hard to keep them out of his hair when needed.

i realize it’s been almost two months since i posted last. i’m not going to say it’s the baby that keeps me busy. i think it’s more of the needing to work while on “leave,” Christmas shopping, and the two other tornadoes that live in our home. but, as the dust is starting to settle, i think, well, i hope that i’ll be able to keep up more with writing and pictures. i was told yesterday by a friend who will remain nameless, amie!, that i needed to post more pictures of evelyn. so! i’ve been inspired to take more pictures! imagine that. and last night i snapped off some cute ones of the kiddos. but i’ll start with the one’s from two months ago…

Precious Memories

Sam’s Christmas List - Optimus Prime, Bumble Bee, and a Black Spiderman outfit “see his angry eyes, and he has no mouth”

She picked out her clothes after bath last night. Boy pull-up because we couldn’t find girl “feel n learn” at the store (those things work so well!)

So much for clean towels - standing at the kitchen door with a wash cloth in hand “i get another baby…”
*side note: every towel has some sort of baby under it*

“I love you to take a picture of me with my ship on my head”

We got the original “my little pony” for her birthday. That’s the same one I had when i was little.

My little thumbalina

The baby we got her for Christmas, I am always drawn to the dark skin, brown hair, brown eye babies for her. She loves that it has a “pony”

Pumpkin Patch Picnic

Filed under: Holiday, Kids, Pictures, School — Bec @ 22:57

My first parent event at the new daycare. The kids had a pumpkin patch picnic. The little ones got to go out and pick pumpkins. They let them play for a while until they started throwing the pumpkins around. For lunch, rather than setting them outside in the cold, they put out green paper on the floor and the kids got to sit and have a “picnic.”

the shirt says; “who needs a costume when you’re already a princess” I had to have it.

This afternoon Sam had a fall festival at school. Of course I didn’t get any pictures of this because there was just so much going on. Every kid in the school going from room to room playing games and getting candy and prizes. Sam had a blast. I really had a good time too, but we were both tired once it was all over.

Pumpkin Patch & Park

Filed under: Kids, Outings, Pictures, School — Bec @ 16:05

We had a field trip to a local “pumpkin patch” and then to the park for lunch. I was so happy I was able to make it. Sam and his class had a really great time, watching the pumpkin carver, listening to a story, and taking a walk through the pumpkin maze. After our pumpkin fun we went to the park, had our lunch and played and played and played.

The kids even got to go home with a little pumpkin of their own. Sam was very excited to show me his “perfect pumpkin” and talk about all the fun things we would do with it like washing it, carving it, put a light inside of it. He even told me that we would scoop out the “insides” (I hope he means the actual meat of it) and make a pumpkin pie. I think these sound like wonderful ideas.

Ms. Libby is going to have a pumpkin patch picnic at her daycare on Monday. We’ll probably get our family pumpkin that evening and work on it… pictures to come! (as usual)

Fair Pictures

He was such a sweetie. All of the kids were so well behaved.

When I met the class and he finally noticed me, he called out and motioned for me to stand by him.
When I was closer he wrapped his arms around me and said “This is my own sweet mommy”

We saw cows and pigs and goats….

We ate popcorn and drank sodas…

….rode the merry-go-round and walked through the haunted house

I saw several people I knew and I had a few good chats with his teacher. We may be planning an educational field trip out to our favorite bayou spot.

of course he was not ready to get back on the bus, but they were going back to school for lunch.
I told him I’d pick him up at daycare after work.
And he told me that I was going to get him a HUGE Lightning McQueen present.

… we’ll see.

I’d just rather stick with bowling with friends tomorrow night.

“ok, here’s the plan…”

Filed under: Kids, Outings, School — Bec @ 8:10

This is what I hear from Sam just before we head off to school. Today is his snack day, leader day and! we’re going on a field trip to the fair to see the animals. And this year, I plan to make it to as many outings as I possibly can. I missed all of them for lack of transportation, or reliable transportation. I plan to take LOTS of pictures. We’ll see how that goes.

sam: ok, here’s the plan. I’m going to get the snack and *makes package opening hand motions* and give them all to my friends and…

He trailed off at the end, still talking but too quiet for me to hear from the front seat. I’ve been giving him motivational plans all week to get him out of bed, or get him to go to bed. Today, snack day, leader day, field trip day. Tomorrow evening, bowling! He’s so excited. I told him that we have invited two of his friends and he said “yay! but what about their mom, dad?” “they’re coming too honey” “Yay!”

I suppose I should go get ready to go. I’m meeting them at the school and following the bus. It’s not going to be a very long trip, they should be back by lunch, but anything to me at this point is better than the ones I went on last year.
